  • Advanced university degree in Engineering, Management, Economics or Energy policy and legislation, or other relevant discipline.                                              


  • At least seven (7) years of professional experience in technical cooperation project management or portfolio project management, including exposure at the international level. Significant experience in designing similar mini-grid tariff programs or renewable energy feed-in frameworks.
  • Substantive knowledge of energy development issues in Burundi.
  • Thorough understanding of social-economic and political situation in Burundi. Ability to develop good rapport with relevant government agencies including Ministry of Energy and Mines and GEF operational focal point.
  • Exposure to the needs, conditions and problems in developing countries. Wide experience and knowledge in national environment priorities and climate change issues, including UNIDO and UN system priorities.
  • Experience in managing stakeholder consultations and analysis of environmental issues is of an advantage and ability to research and analyse information, make linkages with the strategic vison of the Organization and recommend solutions and minimum of 5 years practical experience in the field of export promotion and technical support will be of an asset.                                          Language: Proficiency in written and spoken English and French are required. Fluency and/or working knowledge of other languages/UN languages is desirable.                                   

Job Responsibilities:

  • Establish the current status of RE feed-in-tariffs and setting of end-user tariffs for renewable electricity mini-grids in Burundi.
  • Identify and analyze the obstacles/barriers faced in deploying mini-grid renewable electricity systems and small power projects in Burundi.
  • Analyze the financial regulatory framework and challenges for renewable mini-grids in the country
