  • Matric (Grade 12) and an NQF-Level 4

Experience:

  • At least 2 years of ECD experience in rural communities.
  • Ability to read and write in English and speak fluently in the community local language.

Jobs Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement lesson plans, using the South African National Curriculum Framework as a guide.
  • Plan and conduct an effective child development program to meet the motor, cognitive, and socio-emotional skills needs of each child. Initiate classroom activities daily (sing-a-longs, art projects, sensory exploration, outdoor stimulation).
  • Ensure that child care routines are carried out in a manner that is prompt, hygienic, and consistent with the good child development principles. This includes routines related to toilet/potty training/napping, hand washing, eating and transitioning between activities.
  • Provide a variety of language stimulation activities.
  • Ensure that parents receive adequate information about their child’s experiences at the center through regularly scheduled parent conferences.
  • Develop weekly lesson plans for review by the program team.
  • Maintain written records designed to evaluate each individual child as per outlined processes.
  • Update information regarding classroom enrolment, attendance, retention and progress.
  • Ensure the safety of children through constant supervision, effective arrangement of space, proper maintenance of equipment, and regular practice of fire drills and other emergency procedure.
  • Observe children to detect signs of illness, injury, abuse, neglect, emotional disturbance and other special needs, and report these signs immediately to the Senior Program Associate.
  • Use equipment and supplies safely and conscientiously, keeping the physical environment clean and orderly.
  • Inspect the school site and equipment for potential safety hazards; taking corrective action or informing the Supervisor to prevent injuries. 
  • Ability to follow through with multiple complex tasks with minimum supervision to derive the desired result.
