- Degree in civil or structural engineering
Experience:
- 5 years+ of work experience as a structural engineer
- Expert experience in project management
- Advanced knowledge of construction methods, materials, and legal regulations
- Sound understanding of physics and mathematics
Duties & Responsiblities:
- Design structural components for large-scale projects, including analyzing survey reports, topographical maps, zoning restrictions and client requirements to ensure specifications meet project goals.
- Review blueprints, plans and change orders to verify structural integrity of materials and designs, and perform complex calculations and use modelling methods to ensure correct results
- Review and comment on the Contractor’s construction schedule(s), method statements, risk assessments for the structural steel works.
- Research existing and new material technology to determine practical applications, strength and durability expectations and cost-benefits information, and prepare material recommendations for current and future projects
- Developing designs for new projects using computer modelling software, including AutoCAD or Revit
- Undertake structural analysis with software, spreadsheets and hand calculations
- Performing field work, such as surveying construction sites and conducting tests on materials using equipment such as handheld instruments or computerized machinery
